About Amstelveen Global School
Amstelveen Global School (AGS) is a well-established American-curriculum international school located in the suburban municipality of Amstelveen, directly south of Amsterdam. The school serves approximately 750 students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 and draws its student body primarily from the large American, Canadian, and Korean expatriate communities that have long made Amstelveen their home in the Netherlands.
AGS follows the Common Core State Standards at the elementary and middle school levels, transitioning to a college-preparatory curriculum at the high school level. The school currently offers 14 Advanced Placement (AP) courses, covering subjects ranging from AP Calculus and AP Chemistry to AP United States History and AP Studio Art. The school's college counselling team works closely with students from Grade 9 onwards, providing personalised guidance on university applications to institutions in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
One of AGS's distinguishing features is its strong ESL (English as a Second Language) programme, which provides intensive language support for newly arrived students who are not yet proficient in English. This programme has been instrumental in helping the school attract families from non-English-speaking backgrounds who wish to transition their children into an English-medium education environment. Language support is available at all grade levels and is delivered by certified ESL specialists embedded within mainstream classrooms as well as in dedicated pull-out sessions.
The school's campus in Amstelveen is spacious by Dutch standards, featuring a full-size gymnasium, STEM innovation laboratory, digital media studio, and dedicated outdoor sports fields. AGS is well connected to Amsterdam's residential districts via its extensive school bus network, with routes covering Amsterdam South, the city centre, and key suburban areas. The school's active Parent-Teacher Organisation (PTO) is a central part of school life, organising regular community events, fundraisers, and cultural celebrations throughout the academic year.
