About Washington International School

Washington International School (WIS) is an independent international school founded in 1964, teaching from preschool through grade 12 on two campuses in Northwest Washington: the primary campus on 36th Street NW and the Tregaron campus (grades 6–12) on Macomb Street in Cleveland Park.

Early years pupils learn through immersion in French or Spanish, and grades 1–5 follow a dual-language programme in English and French or Spanish within the IB Primary Years Programme. Students complete the IB Diploma in grades 11–12, and the school states that over half of its students earn a bilingual IB Diploma. Mandarin is offered as an elective in the secondary years.
