The Annex Bilingual Academy

The Annex Bilingual Academy is a private French Immersion school in the heart of Toronto's Annex neighbourhood, offering a rigorous bilingual education for students from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8. The school's mission centres on developing fluently bilingual graduates who are equally comfortable learning, thinking, and communicating in both English and French — a significant advantage in Canada's officially bilingual society.

The curriculum follows Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines delivered through a French Immersion framework. In the early years, approximately 80 percent of instruction is conducted in French, gradually shifting to a 50/50 balance by the upper elementary grades. This immersion model ensures deep language acquisition rather than surface-level exposure, and graduates consistently achieve strong results on provincial EQAO assessments in both languages.

The school is registered with the Ontario Ministry of Education and follows all provincial requirements for curriculum delivery, assessment, and reporting. Students receive Ontario Student Transcripts and are fully prepared for the transition to secondary school, whether they continue in French Immersion, enter an International Baccalaureate programme, or pursue the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) through the standard pathway.

The Annex campus features a well-equipped library with extensive French and English collections, a dedicated science laboratory, a gymnasium, and an art studio. The school's central location near the University of Toronto provides access to cultural institutions including the Royal Ontario Museum, which serves as an extended classroom for history and science units.

Class sizes are capped at 20 students, allowing teachers to monitor language development closely and provide targeted support. Extracurricular activities include a French drama club, competitive basketball and volleyball, chess, coding, and an annual exchange programme with a partner school in Quebec City. The school also celebrates both English and French Canadian cultural traditions throughout the year.

Tuition fees range from CAD 18,000 to CAD 32,000 per year. Limited financial assistance is available for qualifying families.
